Where can you find 90 year old seaweed (and lots of it) in Nottingham Market Square?
The answer is – in the main Council Chamber of Nottingham Council House (up on the 3rd floor).
The seaweed is dried (or it would have rotted by now) and was used inside the cloth-covered wall panels around the room, to deaden sound and reduce vibration – at which it is very successful. The wall panels are shown by the yellow arrows in the photo. (Seaweed must also do quite well against ‘hot air’, as it’s still in good condition after almost 90 years of Council meetings …).
